National ENERGY GLOBE Award Jamaica 2017

Submitted by: 360 Recycle Manufacturing

Project: Recycling manufacturing for Climate Resilience

The 360 Recycling Company has used Jamaica’s waste to start moving the country away from wasteful manufacturing practices and to re-purpose pollutants into useful manufacturing elements. The aim is to recycle the used items around the country to create new items and clean up the country’s landscape.

Initial situation  The country’s landscape has been covered with waste over the decades and as a result a national desire to clean up the countryside has been called for. The problem here was what specifically can the recycled materials be turned into.

Solution  To turn the country’s build-up of waste into something usable by recycling hard wastes such as styrofoam into disaster relief material and other useful projects.

360 Recycle Manufacturing has scientifically researched and developed an innovative construction material from the blending of recyclables. This Recycle Mix is the technology behind the products, which makes them more lightweight, malleable, durable and able to sustain impact. By using the very waste that is scarring the Jamaican countryside the project is cleaning up the country and putting the engaged youth to work.

Jury-Rating As a nation Jamaica has an ideal location for vacationing and holiday makers. Over the years the country has developed a problem with waste management. The recycling of old waste into something which can be used in disaster struck areas such as nearby Haiti is an achievable and necessary endeavor.
